A new Magistrate for Anguilla, Ms. Piyumini Weeratunga, was virtually sworn in on Tuesday, January 26, by Her Excellency the Governor, Ms. Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam.
An announcement on the Governor’s Facebook page stated that Magistrate Weeratunga brings to Anguilla “a wealth of experience, including having served as Magistrate in Montserrat directly before this appointment.” The announcement added: “We welcome her to Anguilla.”
Magistrate Weeratunga has filled the vacancy in the Anguilla Judicial Department created by the departure of Ms. Ivena Benjamin, a national of the Commonwealth of Dominica, who served as Senior Magistrate since in 2010.
Anguillian Mr. Keithly Benjamin, a former Commissioner of the Royal Anguilla Police Force, who served as Junior Magistrate since in 2010, was appointed Senior Magistrate in November 2020 in succession to Ms. Benjamin.
