CAPE AIR SAYS COVID-19 STOPS TRAVEL SERVICE TO ANGUILLA

There has been a new development regarding the planned resumption of Cape Air flights to Anguilla, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, as from next month, February.

The scheduled service would have provided some well-needed additional airlift to Anguilla, but the plans have had to be cancelled as a result of the coronavirus environment.

This information was conveyed in a letter to Anguilla’s Minister of Tourism, Mr. Haydn Hughes, from Mr. Andrew Bonney, Senior Vice President of Planning, Cape Air/Nantucket Airlines in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

The full text of Mr. Bonney’s letter reads as follows:
“I regret that I need to write to you to let you know that the COVID environment will not permit Cape Air to commence service to Anguilla in February, as planned. Advance booking demand has not materialized and the new US Center for Disease Control protocols about international arrivals into the US announced last week, to be effective January 26, further erode prospects.

“Over the next few days Cape Air will go through an orderly schedule change process to reflect this market exit and we will reach out to the affected customers. While scheduled service does not appear viable this season, we will be glad to operate charters to/from Anguilla at any time. Please email charters @capeair.com with requests. Also, we will look forward to returning to Anguilla on November 20, 2021, with daily service for next season – when hopefully this pandemic is behind us.

“The entire Cape Air team wishes you health and safety during this difficult time. We will genuinely miss serving Anguilla with scheduled service this season, and appreciate your understanding. Please let me know if you have any questions.”

Mr. Hughes, the Anguillian Minister of Tourism, replied: “Thank you very much for your continued interest in Anguilla. Rest assured that we appreciate the same and we look forward to a post-Covid environment where we can resume a sense of normalcy.”
