ANGUILLIANS KEENLY FOLLOWED USA ELECTIONS

Anguillians at home and abroad joined other persons, throughout the Caribbean, and the rest of the world, in keenly following the United States election campaign and its outcome.

It was particularly disappointing that the campaigning, counting of votes and the confirmation process by Congress were so unfortunate. It all sent shocks of the discord and rioting across the world, a rare side of the great American democracy.

President, Joseph Biden
Vice President, Kamala Harris

It was a general relief that the eventual swearing in of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., and Vice President, Kamala Harris, went peacefully on Wednesday, January 20. Though it called for much military security to guard against any recurrence of the recent rioting, and the need to observe social distancing and a lessening of the crowd to avoid the spread of the coronavirus, the event was a big and safe historic success.

Now that the US controversial electioneering is over, and the President and Vice President and their teams are safely in the White House, it is hoped that there will not only be a settling down in the United States, but across the world as well.

It is said that that if America coughs, small states, like those in the Caribbean which, in many ways depend on the US, sneeze. This is the extent to which the American influence is highly regarded.

The people of Anguilla have long been the beneficiaries of the American dream and opportunities. They have not only travelled to the US Virgin Islands to live, work and educate themselves, but have moved, settled and furthered their education in many parts of the US mainland states. These states include Perth Amboy, New Jersey and New York, in particular, where there are large communities of Anguillians and their descendants.

To end, as this article stated above, all Anguillians at home and abroad join all other persons around the world who are in solidarity with all peace-loving people in the United States.

The hope is that the great American continent will long continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Further, that it will continue to be the greatest democracy in the world to which many around look up to with much respect and hope.
