Dr. Franklin Lloyd
One of Anguilla’s first nationals to qualify as a medical practitioner, Dr. Franklin Lloyd, passed away on Friday morning, December 4, at his home in the historic Upper Valley.
Dr. Lloyd, who was in his mid-eighties, last served as Chairman of the Health Authority Board of Anguilla – and Senior Medical Officer for a number of years, following which he retired from the medical field.
The well-respected and quiet health professional previously worked at the Joseph N. France General Hospital in St. Kitts as Chief Medical Officer. Before then, he served in Trinidad and other Caribbean islands.
In addition to his contribution to the health services in Anguilla, Dr. Lloyd was a leading member of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, and was involved in the decision-making process in several aspects of community service and development.
The product of a large family Anguillian family, he was the brother of the late Dr. Clarence Lloyd, Anguilla’s first Ophthalmologist, specialising in eye and vision care, and was based in Basseterre, St. Kitts. He was also the brother of the late Captain Clayton Lloyd, Anguilla’s first airline pilot, and former owner of Valley Air Service.
Dr. Franklin Lloyd was trained mainly in France. Sailing was one of his favourite hobbies in St. Kitts and Anguilla.
