The Valley, Anguilla – The Ministry on Infrastructure, Communication, Utilities, Housing and Tourism (MICUHT) representing the Government of Anguilla in association with the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority (AASPA) have secured Four Million Pounds (£4M) for the resurfacing of the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (CJLIA) in the form of grant aid from the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), UK.
Working in close conjunction with His Excellency The Governor Tim Foy, the Honourable Haydn Hughes and team have successfully engaged a team of Canadian design consultants who will oversee the work Windward Roads, the asphalt contractor tasked with completing the resurfacing. Standing on a reputable history of work in the region and having recently completed the surfacing of the Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport in Saba and the Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten, Windward Roads has committed to the completion of the scope of work before the end of March 2021. Core samples to confirm the final design specifications will be taken the week of November 16th, shortly after which the final timeline will be made public. The phased approach to the resurfacing will pose minimum disruption to the operations of the CJLIA.
Commenting on the upcoming project Minister Hughes stated that “The safety of the travelling public is a paramount concern. As with any other runway, the usage over the years reduces the aircraft’s braking ability. Positioning to have an increase in airlift, we have had to work quickly with the resurfacing of the runway which will bring immediate improvements for the local, regional and international carriers who service the island. All stakeholders including the leading partners in the Tourism Sector will be positively impacted by this and further improvements to be made to our airport. This is a first and critical step towards the ultimate goal of airport expansion to meet our ever-growing needs.”
