The Cooking and Food Presentation class of the Anguilla Community College (ACC) 6 Tech Hospitality programme undertook their first food preparation and service practical for members of the general public on Friday 6th November 2020 under the direction of Mrs. Karimah Carty, Chef de Partie/Trainer. All of the students participated in the preparation of the delectable meal and then the group was split in half to accommodate the service patrons whilst the others plated meals in the kitchen.

Director of Hospitality, Ms. Sharon Richardson, stated that “Mrs. Carty has done an excellent job in preparing the students for this occasion. I am very proud of their first attempt, from personal experience I know how nerve wrecking it can be to serve guests for the first time, but it is a skill that with practice becomes easier and easier, until you have mastered it so that it resembles a gracious art form. The meal rivals some of our top restaurants, so we are looking forward to turning out some of Anguilla’s top chefs!

At the end of the scrumptious three (3) course meal, patrons were asked to complete a guest satisfaction survey and provide feedback. The meal was comprised of an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The students received very favourable and constructive comments which will help them progress in the food and beverage industry.

The Cooking and Food Presentation and Food and Beverage Service classes began in September 2020 and industry professionals have also visited the classes to assist students in developing their skills in these areas. Students have been exposed to making sushi, pasta making and breaking down chicken as well as various types of service.

ACC will be offering a number of food and beverage related courses next semester and would like to encourage interested persons to register early to reserve their space. For more information, contact the Anguilla Community College, 203 The Rogers Building, Edwin Wallace Rey Drive, George Hill Anguilla, AI 2640. Tel: 264 498 8395, E-mail: info@acc.edu.ai
