The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) met virtually with Regional Education officials over the weekend and with Ministers of Education in the region on Monday 19th October. These meetings were convened in response to the numerous complaints received from students, parents and Education officials following the release of the July/August CXC results. An independent review committee was convened to examine the regional results. The following decisions were shared with the virtual meetings:
? The deadline for requesting Grade Reviews has been extended to 6th November 2020
? Scripts will be re-marked rather than simply re-tallied
? There will be a 50% reduction on the per subject Grade Review. The cost will be US$15 per subject Grade Review as opposed to the usual $30. Those who have already paid full price for grade reviews will be entitled to a refund.
? One hundred percent of the July/August exams were moderated as opposed to the customary 30%. Going forward CXC will engage in 100% SBA Moderation.
Further details of the review by the independent review committee will be shared in a subsequent release as they become available. The Ministry of Education along with other regional Education Ministers will continue to work along with CXC to find further solutions to the problems identified. The regional Ministries will engage with CXC and the Council for Social and Human Development over the course of this week with the hope of achieving an outcome that benefits all parties.
