The Caribbean regional focal
point of the BEST 2.0+ programme is calling on all private and public organisations in the British (and Dutch) Overseas Territories to submit their project proposals for nature conservation and sustainable development to create a better, climate resilient environment.

The Caribbean regional focal point has teamed up with the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce in Europe (CCCE) to work on the BEST 2.0+ programme that is part of the EU ‘Biodiversity4Life’ initiative, financed by the European Commission (EC). This programme is administered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature ( IUCN), the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network that is as well leading similar granting mechanisms for the EU Caribbean Outermost regions (ORs) LIFE4BEST and ACP countries.

The objective of the BEST 2.0+ programme, is to promote the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of ecosystem services, including ecosystem-based approach to climate change adaption and mitigation, in the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs).

BEST 2.0+ aims to fulfil its objective by enabling, empowering and strengthening local authorities and civil society organisations through the implementation of a grant scheme accompanied by capacity building activities. The grant scheme takes the form of one call for proposals, which is designed to provide effective support for small actions on the ground at the local, as well the regional level for the period 2020-2022 (maximum of 19 months), for an amount of up to 60,000 Euro per project.

BEST 2.0+ reflects the actual local needs and demands and provides more support to local stakeholders for unlocking their potential. The overall goal of BEST 2.0+ is to increase the visibility of the OCTs asdemonstrators of ecosystem-based approaches and key contributors to the achievement of EU and international biodiversity targets, as part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG2030), a treaty of the United Nations (UN), signed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands).

The eligibility criteria for the BEST 2.0+ are specified in the Call’s guidelines (see following link: https://www.best2plus.org/call-for- proposals/.The deadline for applications of project proposals is 22nd October 2020 and any local and regional stakeholders in the British (as well as Dutch) OCTs are requested to contact the BEST 2.0+ regional focal point for any further information and assistance required: allaud@efinad.eu or best2.0-Caribbean@iucn.org
