Sunday, 20th September 2020 — It’s been a long time in coming to re-awaken my passion for the art of writing. My last commentary, which I wrote on June 30th following Anguilla’s General Elections, was published in the 3rd July 2020 edition of The Anguillian. Since then, I’ve not been motivated to share my thoughts on life matters or the current global conditions. It’s as if my soul knew I had to go inward and focus on the inner self to learn lessons the Creator is teaching me.
This has been my lifelong journey of resonating with Spirit or, as I phrase it, “Inecting”. Sometimes I am out in the world. Other times I am within myself. I live both an extroverted and introverted lifestyle, going with the flow of how I am internally guided to be. This isn’t always easy to achieve because people have expectations of how everyone ought to behave. Just the other day when I was at Simply Natural by Yinka health store, in The Valley, a sister parishioner from St Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church – whom I know – saw me and said she hadn’t seen me in church for a while. I responded that I’ve been worshipping at home, without bothering to explain that God has drawn me into a quieter space keeping me separated from the world.
Since the air and seaports closed in Anguilla, it appears that I too am going through some sort of closure. In my case, I realise it is because I wanted to transform my life to a higher plane of enlightened existence. I have always been focussed on spiritual practices from a young age. As a teenager, I recall the one time that I challenged my father regarding the religious beliefs he’d taught me. Dad said that we do not have to go to church to worship God. One Sunday, I told him that I wasn’t going to service and used his words to support my declaration. I was acting out of rebelliousness as my two-years older brother wasn’t required to attend church services. It worked though – because my parents didn’t make me go that day. However, I returned to church the following week. I think that I was just testing Daddy to see if I could get away with not doing as he instructed me.
It is amazing – this transformation which I am going through at this stage of my life. I am becoming more in tune with the energies that surround all of us on a daily basis. My consciousness knows when to step out of my solitude and congregate with, or reach out to, other persons. As well, I easily retreat to my sacred sanctuary when my soul desires to be alone. I’m stepping away from relationships, persons, habits and situations, that no longer serve my Highest Self – and which detract from my evolving to a higher plane of conscious awakening with The Most-High. In addition, I have come to recognise that my physical presence isn’t necessary to do the inner work of shining the light and love of Jah which resonate through me.
During these uncertain times, when our normal routines have been interrupted and each of us is adjusting to a new way of living, we have the opportunity to self-examine the status of our own individual and collective lives. We can choose to continue existing in the manner to which we’ve become accustomed – or we can decide to shift ourselves and to create more balance, harmony and peace from within. The choice is ours to make. It may mean that we have to move away from toxic environments or relations with family, friends, places of employment or residences. We might even have to move out of our comfort zones and not know exactly where we are going or what’s happening next, trusting that the Supreme Being will guide and provide for us. Whatever it takes, we have to learn that forward movement is a part of the circle of life, death and rebirth.
Do not be afraid to try something different, learn a new way of doing things, change directions. Sometimes in the waves of change, we find our true direction. Be inspired … Be changed! Embrace our resilience as a people who know how to survive and thrive under all circumstances! May we seek God’s guidance to transform ourselves.
