The COVID-19 pandemic has caused economic hardship around the world including Anguilla. Although Anguilla is one of few countries in the world classed as being currently COVID-19 free, its people realise that the 2020 hurricane season is here. In the midst of a predicted global recession and with many persons in the tourism sector currently out of work, due to the forced closure of borders, preparation for the hurricane season could be quite difficult.
These foregoing circumstances have led to collaboration between, the Health Promotions Unit, the Health Authority of Anguilla and the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), in creating starter Emergency Supplies Kits for persons that meet the criteria for Social Security and Government Assistance, as well as those persons who are unemployed – that do not meet the criteria of both programmes.
We are pleased to announce that with sponsorship from Medical Air Services Association (MASA) and Alliance Insurance, 66 homes were able to benefit from the food items and water vouchers starter Emergency Supplies Kits.
The Health Promotion Unit, the Health Authority of Anguilla and the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), would like to say a special thank you to both sponsors that made this project possible. We are appealing to other organisations to come on board to help the people of Anguilla during this time of high unemployment.
