On the evening of Sunday 16th August, a large and appreciative audience from the Methodist Church in Anguilla, and members of other churches, bid farewell to Dr Karl Dawson who will be returning to his home in the British Virgin Islands this week after spending three years in Anguilla as President of the Anguilla Community College.
During his stay in Anguilla, Brother Karl was very active in the work of the Methodist Church, especially the Bethel Congregation where he was a member, and was involved in the music ministry. As an Accredited Local Preacher, he was involved in the Preaching Ministry of the church and in activities of the Preachers’ Fellowship. Karl was a facilitator of the recently concluded prison programme organised by the Eleos Centre, a family support ministry of the Methodist Church.
The programme included musical selections by the Bethel Choir and Men’s group, and words of appreciation by the Bethel congregation, the Preachers’ Fellowship, and the Anguilla Circuit. An instrumental selection rendered by Brother Dawson on the cello and his friend, Brother Claudel Romney on the keyboard, was well received.
A plaque of appreciation, made of Anguilla stone, was presented by the circuit. The occasion was used to present Bro Karl with the John Baxter Award, on behalf of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and Americas, for having served ten years as a Local Preacher. A photographic and video presentation highlighting aspects of Karl’s stay in Anguilla was also screened.
In his response, Dr Dawson said he was thankful to God for the opportunity to serve here in Anguilla. He said the challenges we face are great, but our God is greater; they are wide and varied, but his love is immeasurable. So with his strength, and the power of his might, we too can be conquerors.
The evening ended with prayers of blessing on Brother Dawson by Rev Joseph Lloyd, retired Methodist Minister, and the laying on of hand by the other members of the Clergy who were in attendance.
