Sandy Ground has been one of five sites in Anguilla under consideration for a mega yacht marina, but there is now some disagreement on this by the present Government of the Anguilla Progressive Movement.

Word of this has come from the Minister of Infrastructure and Tourism, Mr. Haydn Hughes. He told The Anguillian newspaper: “When we came to office, little did we know that there was an agreement signed by the former administration, just before elections, for a yacht marina in Sandy Ground.
“We have told the investors that we are not going forward on that. We don’t want a marina in Sandy Ground Salt Pond. We want to preserve that salt pond for generations to come so that they can enjoy whatever it has given us over the years, and keep the environment there in a pristine manner.

“We are looking at other alternative sites. One of the most attractive sites, other than that, is the Blowing Point site. So we are looking at that possibility.

“But I don’t want to talk too soon…because it is still in the preliminary stages.”
