As the Government continues to ease restrictions on public gatherings, over the past few weeks, the Anguilla Football Association, has decided to resume the 2020 Anguilla Football League (AFL) on June 17th. The 2020 football league initially started in February, with the senior male league, and was suspended in March as a precautionary measure to safeguard players, officials and attendees, in the midst of COVID-19.

After careful consideration, the Association has decided to resume the Male League on Wednesday June 17th, with Lymers FC taking on Enforcers FC at 6:00pm at the Raymond E. Guishard Stadium. The match will be live streamed and persons wishing to attend are encouraged to continue practicing social distancing and proper hygiene methods.
Furthermore, during the period of suspension, in continuing its efforts towards improving the Association and facilities, the Anguilla Football Association made a few improvements. Therefore, players upon returning to the field, and spectators, will notice a few new enchantments including: an updated scoreboard, in partnership with UEFA Assist, and enhanced team shelters, featuring various players from both male and female clubs and teams.
President of the Anguilla Football Association, Girdon Connor stated: “We are extremely excited to return to the field after several months waiting on the sidelines. While the decision has been well supported by the member clubs and teams, the AFA was very cautious in its approach as the health, safety of players and all stakeholders is paramount to the AFA.”
Mr. Connor explained that AFA arranged a meeting with the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Aisha Andrewin and her team to better understand the current health crisis and what its possible impact is before resumption of the league. Health protocols were also developed and shared with health officials and members for review.

As the season continues, the Association plans to resume the women’s tournament in July.
