Fellow Anguillians

As we celebrated the weekend of the 53rd Anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution, we lost another revolutionary hero. Mr. John Roosevelt Rogers, better known as Bob Rogers, passed on to glory. What an event it must have been as all our dearly departed heroes and heroines gathered in heaven to recount stories of the Revolution and the Anguilla they imagined.

Mr. Rogers lived a full life, and his many contributions to his beloved country can never be forgotten. His vivid descriptions of the past were captivating, and made you feel as if you were there with him, and the other brave patriots, who helped plan and execute the events of the Anguilla Revolution, and then charted the course of a new vision for Anguilla.

A few months ago, I had the honour and privilege of being invited to his home where Mr. Rogers gave me a lecture on the state of Anguilla: where we were, where we are, and where we should be. Even laid up in bed, and dealing with his own infirmities, he was current in the affairs of the country, sharp in his praise and rebuke, and forthright with his opinions. He still had the passionate revolutionary spirit which is evident in our heroes and heroines, those who have passed and those still with us. I learned a lot that day, and I thank his family, especially his wife Lillian, for their patience and loving care of a true patriot.

Mr. Bob Rogers has passed but his legacy will live on. His contribution to his beloved country will never be forgotten. From myself, my family and the Anguilla Progressive Movement family, I wish heartfelt condolences to his wife, his children, his family and a grateful nation.

May he rest in peace. God bless us all.

Ellis Lorenzo Webster
