The Royal Anguilla Police Force is continuing to make some impressive appearances – on the main roads of the island – conducting random checks on vehicles, drivers and passengers.
Dressed in dark uniforms, with a few of them armed, police officers attached to at least two special units of the Force, stopped, questioned a number of motorists and searched their vehicles. Some of the questions related to the travel of persons within a period of fourteen days with reference to the imposed covid-19 restrictions.
On the other hand, the searching of vehicles provided opportunities for the lawmen to ensure that persons were not carrying around illegal firearms, other offensive weapons and drugs.
The searches have already paid off, as one of the special officers remarked: “In three weeks, we found and seized three firearms and ammunition” – as was earlier reported in a police press release.
The professionally-looking and friendly police officer added: “The public likes to see us on the road.”
