During the recent memorial service for the late John Elliot Brooks, it was announced that a special offering would be collected in his honour. That offering was, in fact, turned over in the form of a cheque to the Tender Loving Care Nursing Home in North Valley, which is owned and operated by Ms. Brenda Hodge.
In a handing over ceremony on Wednesday morning, Mr. Brooks’ wife Audrey said while delivering the cheque: “This money was collected at the memorial service of my late husband, John Elliot Brooks. He would like this donation to go the Tender Loving Care nursing care home, on his behalf. The amount is EC$1,820.00. I sincerely hope that this would go towards the great work that is going on here.”
In grateful response, Brenda said: “On behalf of Tender Love Care Home, I wish to say thank you very much for collecting and donating these funds. Mr. Brooks was, indeed, a friend of Tender Loving Care. He visited us quite often, and he always had kind and encouraging words for me. So I highly appreciate this given on his behalf. I have decided to put it towards the cost of our electrical expenses, so that when we turn our lights on we can remember Mr. Brooks.”
Brenda also took the opportunity to thank Premier Banks for his passionate interest in the restoration of the home following the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. She said: “Mr. Banks is the man responsible for this upgrade. After the hurricane when our roof was gone, and there were hardly any good windows and doors left, he went out of the way to provide us with a contractor, Ian and Janine Edwards of Sunset homes. They have done a marvelous job here, giving us not just a better roof, but also bigger and more bathrooms. In addition, they raised the floor, and made everything more practical and comfortable for us. They have worked tirelessly on this project, so while I thank you, Mrs. Brooks, I can never thank Mr. Banks, and Ian and Janine enough for stretching their arms beyond their reach.”
