With plans well advanced for the 2020 general election and the at-large elections, Ms. Aurjul Wilson, Supervisor of Elections, resigned with immediate effect on Tuesday, February 11. In her letter of resignation to Governor Tim Foy, OBE she cited, among other matters, her need for independence in carrying out her duties. (See page 4)
The Governor’s Office issued the following press release to the media: “The Governor today accepted the resignation of Ms. Aurjul Wilson, Supervisor of Elections. He offers his sincere thanks and appreciation to Ms. Wilson for her service and wishes her the very best in her future endeavours.
“Mrs. Maria Hughes has been appointed as Acting Supervisor of Elections with immediate effect.”
Meanwhile, in another press release, the Governor’s Office wrote:
“The Governor’s Office advises the public that, by law, the period allowed for voter registration this quarter ends on Friday, 14 February, 2020.
“Consequently, the Central Electoral Office will be open for the remainder of this working week, ending Friday, between 8 am and 4 pm for registration in this quarter.
“Persons seeking to register are reminded to have all necessary documents in hand to ensure a speedy registration process.”

She served as an Election Officer in 2010, while a university student.
