MINISTRY OF TOURISM PLEASED WITH TAXI-DRIVERS’ UNIFORM

The Anguilla Taxi Association has come in for high praise for its decision to have its members attired in uniform – featuring the national colours of the island as depicted on the Official Flag, Coat of Arms, Shield and Crest. The uniform was launched at the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal on February 8 when many of the taxi-drivers turned up in the special attire.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism, Mr. Cardigan Connor – this week – described the uniform as a significant plus to the face of the industry. “For quite some time there had been discussions about how we can improve the presentation of our taxi-drivers, and this is certainly a huge step forward,” he commented. Both Mr. Connor and Mr. Curtis Richardson, the Minister of Transport, were at an emergency meeting of the Executive Council when the taxi-drivers’ uniform was launched.
“We are always looking at how we can improve the experience of our guests – whether they are visitors from overseas or even Anguillians who are taking the taxi service – and I congratulate the Taxi Association for making this happen,” Mr. Connor continued. “The taxi-drivers are very much part of the image of Anguilla because, most times, they are the ones who our visitors will see before they even enter their rooms; and, at times, they will be among the last people they will see on Anguilla.”
Mr. Connor took the opportunity to speak briefly about the number of tourists visiting Anguilla. “In 2019 we had a very positive flow of guests over ten of the twelve months, with the highest number of tourist stay-over on the island, and I think that was tremendous,” he stated. “As we go into 2020 and 2021 we are looking at similar numbers.

“I am very proud about what everybody has achieved, and it is a case where tourism is everybody’s business. As I said, the Taxi Association and taxi-drivers are very much the image of Anguilla.”
