Football fans in Anguilla joined guests at Leon’s Beach Bar at Malliouhana-Auberge on Sunday evening, February 2, to view the exciting super bowl 2020 game played in Miami, Florida, and transmitted to them on a big screen set up by the resort on Meads Bay Beach.

Director of Food & Beverage at Malliouhana, Ms. Audrey Schannhauser, speaking at the expansive Leon’s Beach Bar commented: “We just wanted to do this because we know that the super bowl is a very famous event that everybody wants to see. We therefore decided to organise something so that persons can be on the beach, enjoying great snacks like hot dogs and burgers from the grill, and at the same time being able to watch the super bowl on the giant screen on the beach with the lovely scenery. I think that is awesome.

“As you see, we are pretty busy and we are very happy about it. Obviously, we will do it again next year. This is a very good exercise for us to see what we can do on this beach as well. That was just a trial and I think it was very successful.”

Working closely with the event was Mr. José Vanterpool, the IT Manager at the hotel. “I am very happy with the turnout. This is the first major super bowl event at Leon’s and it is the kind of environment we like to have. That is to see the beach filled with persons enjoying themselves. The environment is just electric and I love it.”

He added: “I was in charge of everything technical: getting the lines and the service installed, the contractors to set up the screen and so on. We had some technical difficulties earlier, but we ironed them out early and were good to go for the game and to get it up and running.”

The super bowl is an American football game to determine the champion of the National Football League. The game was won by the Kansas City Chiefs – their first win in fifty years – with a score of 31 -20 against the San Francisco 49ers.
