CONNOR RELEASES ACHIEVEMENTS IN DISTRICT 7, WEST END

With the 2020 electioneering campaign gaining momentum, Mr. Cardigan Connor, the current Elected Representative for District 7,West End, with Long Bay and other areas, has released his record of achievements.

The list is as follows:
• The formation of the Pioneers of boat-racing and The West Fest Committees to honour captains, owners and crew members and to restore the tradition of boat-racing at Meads Bay and West Fest on August Thursday.
• With assistance of some members of the business community, he implemented nightly patrols throughout the district by the Royal Anguilla Police Force.
• Arranged the Welcome to the Village Sign at the stoplight.
• Secured funding of a sports scholarship in the United States for a young athlete from the West End community.

• Opening of the Youth Development Centre with a focus on after school progammes for youth at the primary and secondary level. The formation of an independent district committee, and created an opportunity for one of the residents to manage the Centre.

• Opened the Made in Anguilla Arts and Crafts Centre, creating an opportunity for local artisans to display and sell their items to visitors and locals alike. Provided a job for one of the district’s residents to manage the Centre.

• Restoration of the Bedneys and Rogers wells in recognition of the district’s heritage of sourcing fresh water for drinking, cooking and washing over a century.

• Instrumental in a drive to keep the West End communities clean.
• Renaming the West End Clinic to The Agnes Agartha Richardson Clinic. This is in recognition of her services as a Midwife and Caregiver and her dedication of over 50 years of service to the District.
• Securing funds of $20,100.00 EC from Helping Hands/Roger Cup for the Primary School.

The list also includes a number of other projects in the works. These are:
• A public road to the wharf in The Cove and solar lights for the wharf.
• Land swap and clearance of land west of the Alwyn Alison Richardson Primary School for the benefit of our youth and community members.

• Upgrade of the West End Basketball Court.
• A public toilet facility at Meads Bay.
• Assisted transport for the elderly to the clinics or hospital.

At the national level
• Anguilla was voted number 1 island in the Caribbean for three consecutive years by Travel & Leisure readers. 2019 saw the highest number of stay-over arrivals to Anguilla; 2016 was second.

• $50,000.00 EC donated to the winner of the 50th Anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution around the island boat race.
