I can see the headlines- “Anguilla the land of the white cedar”-

Unlike red cedar, the Anguilla white cedar is a hard wood with very little sap, and great for carving. The trunks are not very large. But any wood 4” in diameter and over can be carved.
We have a growing tourist Industry and wooden arts and crafts by Anguillians from Anguillian materials is a viable market, providing the marketing opportunities are favourable.

This is not to encourage the cutting down of trees, but sometimes land is cleared for construction or other purposes; the usable wood should be cut up in lengths and stored in a protected dry, humid area for curing.
Maybe one of our budding scientists can design a solar kiln for curing wood.

The remaining Mahogany trees in Anguilla should require a government license before they can be cut or trimmed.

Devonish Art gallery is celebrating its 50th anniversary; surviving a less favorable Tourism climate. than what exists today.

The official opening of the exhibition is on Saturday 14th December, 530 pm to 8 pm. See you there.
