The family of David Kenworthy would like to thank the outpouring of support following his passing, earlier this summer on June 23,rd at the age of 77 after a brief battle with cancer. David loved Anguilla and the wonderful people of this great island, and he would have been humbled to know how many have expressed a kind word, or a loving memory, in the weeks that have followed.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years Barbara, daughters Sarah and Emma, son Zac, and his five granddaughters Madison, Savannah, Scarlett, Isla and Piper. David was born on June 30th, 1941 in Preston, England, and after marrying Barbara in 1963 the pair moved to Bermuda where he worked as an overseas architect for the British Government. Later, the family moved to Tortola and then St. Maarten where David opened his private architectural practice, Kenworthy & Associates.
David and his wife Barbara first visited, and subsequently fell in love with, Anguilla in the early 1970’s before purchasing land and building a home in Cul-de-Sac with construction starting in 1979. Eleven years later the family moved permanently to its shores. Over the years, David designed numerous buildings throughout the community including the Anguilla Court House, Post Office, Library and NCBA branch in The Valley, the Anguilla Police Station in Sandy Ground, the NCBA branch in West End, as well as numerous private residences.

He was also an active and passionate member of the Anguilla cricket community and, in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, he enjoyed stints as Manager of the Anguilla National Team, Secretary of the Anguilla Cricket Association, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association. He loved the tight-knit cricket family of Anguilla and forged great friendships over the years – strong bonds that are still evident today.

David enjoyed his time working in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, and he was also a regular contributor to the sports section of this very newspaper, The Anguillian. His love of sports was outmatched only by his love for his wife, his family and the people of this island. May he rest in peace.
