Governor Foy and Mrs. Foy with various media representatives

For the first time, media representatives in Anguilla were recognised for their work at a get-together, at the invitation of His Excellency the Governor and Dr. Foy, at Government House, their official residence at Sea Feathers.
“Journalism is a vocation, and I just want to thank all of you for what you do. This country is blessed by having it, and what surprises me is that, even in the age of social media, guess what? People still look to The Anguillian. They still look to The Herald. They still listen to Radio Anguilla. They still listen to other radio stations… Thank you very much, and congratulate yourselves.”

Commenting further, Governor Foy stated: “I often think that we look at the Judiciary, the Legislature, Parliament and the Executive, but we forget the important role that the media plays in a free society in ensuring that people are challenged. That is what good quality journalism does. I think Anguilla is blessed by the quality of its print and broadcast media.”

Meanwhile, on September 25, 2019, Lord Ahmad, of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London, delivered a statement on the need to protect media freedom around the world. He was at the time addressing the United Nations General Assembly.
