PESTICIDE AWARENESS WEEK 2012: “Protecting the Environment and Health through Pesticides Container Management”

The Honourable Minister of Home Affairs is pleased to announce, that the Department of Environment continues to serve the general public ofAnguilla, through its various outreach programmes. It is our goal to continue with the initiatives of our outreach programmes through providing public education and awareness information to the people of Anguilla.It is on this basis, that the Department of Environment is organisingAnguilla’s Third “Pesticide Awareness Week” of activities from September 24th to 29th, 2012.

 

Pesticide Awareness Week first began in theCaribbeanin 1995. It is an ongoing effort throughout theCaribbean, whereby countries come together to plan and coordinate conjoined activities to address the efficient and safe use of pesticides. The aim of the outreach initiative is to educate and sensitise pesticide applicators and the general public about different types of pesticides and their potential threat as they relate to the environment and public health.

Local Pesticide Control and Exterminating Businesses contributed to this year’s activities for Pesticide’s Awareness Week, 2012. Sponsorship were received from the following businesses; Progressive Pest Control, LLP,Harrigan’s Exterminating Services, Rogers ExterminatingPest Control Services and D & A Exterminating Services.

 

Among the activities scheduled for “Pesticide Awareness Week” are;,media coverage(television, radio and newspapers), school presentations, and display of roadside banners, posters and flyers.
