On Friday, June 14th, the Education Department conducted a consultation conference on an Educational Development Plan for Anguilla for the period 2020 to 2025. The event was held at the Raymond Guishard Football Stadium Conference Room, and catered especially to stakeholders in education, including educators, mentors and students representatives.

Mrs. Dawn Reid, Education Services Planner, gave an in-depth overview of the purpose of the conference: “Today, we seek to devise an education plan for the period 2020 to 2025. We are currently being guided by a plan for 2015 to 2020. However, a lot of the strategies that were implemented, under that plan, were disrupted by Hurricane Irma. So, today we have brought in all of our stakeholders to assist us in developing a 2020 to 2025 strategic education plan that would guide us for the next five years.”

When asked to give a comprehensive identification as to who the stakeholders are, Mrs. Reid responded: “These include all education personnel such as teachers and principals, education officers, parents reps from the PTAs, and student reps. The early pre-school personnel are also represented. In addition, we invited the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association and the Chamber of Commerce. We also have representation from the Ministry of Labour and representatives from the TVET Council, as well as the ALHCS Board of Governors.”

Mrs. Reid stated that during the conference, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in, as well as threats to, the education system would be identified and analyzed in order to draw up strategies and determine what is needed to be addressed in order to devise a workable 2020-2025 Education Development Plan. She confirmed that as a result of the work done at the conference, the Development Plan will be Anguilla’s National Plan for Education for five years ahead.
