Three entities of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) were the recent recipients of sponsorship funds – from the Social Security Board – totalling US$8,100.00. The three entities were: the ALHCS Concert Jazz Band, We Love Hospitality Club and the New Young Progressive Debaters (NYPD).
The Board has been, and continues to be, a long-time supporter of the development of music education in the public schools. In support of a request for funding to purchase new string instruments for the ALHCS Concert Jazz Band, the Board has granted part sponsorship in the amount of US$5,000.00.
It is said that experience is the best teacher, therefore in an effort to expose the Hospitality students at the ALHCS to real life experiences in the hospitality industry, the “We Love Hospitality Club” was formed. Hospitality teachers organize annual trips abroad so that the students can experience, compare and contrast what other destinations offer in the field of Hospitality. These annual trips have been very beneficial to the students, therefore the Board supports the initiative to educate the students via another method other than the classroom. In response to its request for funding towards the accommodation costs for its 2019 trip to St. Kitts, for 14 students and 2 teachers, the We Love Hospitality Club received sponsorship of US$3,000.00.
The Board values the art of public speaking and supports the efforts made to help students develop their public speaking skills through debating. The Board has been an annual supporter of the ALHCS Literary and Debating Society over the years. The NYPD is a junior debating club at Campus B, where the younger students have the opportunity to practice their debating skills amongst their peers in a number of competitions. At the end of the school year they are awarded for their outstanding performances. These young debaters then go on to become members of the senior Literary and Debating Society. As requested, the Board granted sponsorship in the amount of US$100.00 towards awards for the students.
One of the social development areas of focus for the Social Security Board is that of education. Over the years, through its Social Security Development Fund (SSDF), the Board has contributed to many different aspects in the field of education, and is by far the leading corporate sponsor.
