The Vivien Vanterpool Primary School came alive on Thursday 23rd May 2019 with its Careers Fair. It was organized by the Guidance Counsellor at the school

Mrs Vivienne Fleming.

The theme for this year’s fair was ‘Careers in our Homes’ with a focus on Mathematics, because there is a continuous decline in pupils’ interest in Mathematics.

The day was divided into two sessions. The morning session was spent at the school where pupils had several opportunities to visit and share with seven (7) presenters. Presentations were made by makeup artists, barbers, bakers, health authority personnel, fishermen, artists and math coordinator. Each presenter showed how math is used in his/her respective jobs.

Student showed much excitement and enthusiasm but the greatest excitement came form their involvement in the ‘Math at work’ session.

The afternoon session was spent off campus.

Grades 5 and 6 visited Oris Smith’s carpentry workshop, while Grades K to 4 visited Smith’s Poultry and Agriculture Farm. Both groups were thoroughly engaged and amazed as to what was done.

The counsellor, principal and staff of the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School, would like to thank all the presenters and look forward to their continued support in future careers fairs.
