The national colours of Anguilla were prominent among the seven contenders in the Inter-Primary School Calypso Competition at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre on Saturday evening, May 25.

The event was one of fourteen activities listed in the Official Programme for the Anguilla Day 2019 Celebrations marking the 52nd Anniversary of the island’s Revolution.

The theme of the competition was ,however, in connection with stamping out bullying – a negative influence affecting schoolchildren and other young people everywhere.

The winner of the competition was Ethan Connor (The Educator) of the Alwyn Alison Primary School. He gained 425 points with his song Stomp Out Bullying.

In second place was Alannis Hodge (Lady Fireball) of The Valley Primary School with her song Bullying Must Stop. She achieved 410 points.

There was a tie of 406 points in third place between Anna Lynch (Miss Limitless) of the Omololu International Institute with her song Stronger, and Rajon Thompson (Lil Raj) of the Orealia Kelly Primary School whose song was Bully Problems.

The other school-age calypsonians were: Keronique Harrigan (Singing Kero) of the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School who sang No Room at All; Arwin Narine (The Mighty Defender) of the Morris Vanterpool Primary School, whose song was Stop Bulling; and Keronique Harrigan (The Songbird) (not the same student as above) who represented the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School with her song Stomp it Out.

Marlon Halley, (The Mighty Trail Blazer), the 2018 Schools’ Calypso Monarch, ended the well-attended competition and surrendered his crown to Ethan Connor, The Educator.

The judges were Allister Richardson, Corvel Fleming, Felicia Hennis; Andy Mathew and Kenneth Brooks. The Masters of Ceremonies were: Charisma Chin, Tyree Peters and Michael Martin. The Platinum Band provided the background music.
