Sunset Homes, a property development firm in Anguilla, sponsored its annual event on its grounds located at Stoney Ground. Races for each age category included lime and spoon race, ‘fishing’, flat races, relays, hoola hoop, tug-of-war and other games.

The event originates out of active cooperation within the community, reminiscent of traditional communal activities, where villagers come together to work on selected projects. The event aims at encouraging community spirit and providing a stimulating, productive activity for the children in which they can win educational prizes just in time for the re-opening of school.

Eight-year-old Nadi Edwards, competing in the Under 9 category, excelled consistently in all her events and captured the title of Valedictorian. The principals of Sunset Homes have expressed appreciation to all persons who gave so generously of their time and resources: the Royal Anguilla Police Force, Sports Director, Alfred “Allie” Douglas, Chief Coordinators Joan Johnson and Alma Gumbs as well as members of the Sunset Homes staff. The release from the property development firm said: “Special mention must be made of the very generous donation made by Joseph Williams and Kathleen Rogers who sent a wonderful array of special educational gifts and supplies for the children. “These two persons are Anguillians, living in the United States, who continue to contribute to the children of this community through various programmes and events. Appreciation is also extended to BELK in the United States who contribute freely to help Anguilla’s youth. “Stellar support was also received from supporting organisations including Tropical Treats, Watson Hodge/Caracasbai, Merchant’s Market, Lawrence “Big Time”Hodge, J. W. Proctors, Mary’s Bakery, Dominion Faith Church, Essential Office Services, Ivor and Carmen, The Anguillian newspaper and the St. Maarten Daily Herald.” |
