The Department of Youth and Culture (DYC) is pleased to announce that during the month of May, it made significant contributions to three major national events. On behalf of the Government of Anguilla, the department provided financial assistance to Festival del Mar, which took place in Island Harbour on the 20th and 21st April, 2019. This year’s celebration was widely considered one of the best events to date, with many supporters expressing appreciation for the large number of excellent, local entertainment acts that graced the ‘del Mar’ stage.

In addition, to Festival del Mar, the department facilitated the Mayoumba Folkloric Theatre’s participation in the first International Folk Dance and Music Festival held in Antigua from 21 – 29 April 2019. The Mayoumba Folkloric Theatre travelled to Antigua on 25 April 2019 and, as usual, represented Anguilla with sterling performances.
Financial support was also provided to the Anguilla Literary Foundation for the staging of the 2019 Anguilla Lit Fest, slated to take place from 16 – 18 May 2019.

The Hon. Minister of Social Development, Mr. Evans McNeil Rogers, Permanent Secretary of Youth Affairs, Dr. Bonnie Richardson-Lake, and the Director and staff of the Department of Youth and Culture expressed their best wishes for the events. The Department is committed to providing support to organisations and individuals in Anguilla engaged in initiatives to further develop and empower themselves.

The above, are all registered and accredited organisations with the Department of Youth and Culture. Members of culture and arts organisations on Anguilla, who have not yet been registered or accredited by the Department, are encouraged to contact the Senior Programme Officer – Culture, Ms. Avon Carty at avon.carty@gov.ai or by telephone (264) 498 3792/497 0969. The registration and accreditation process is used to determine an organisation’s eligibility to receive funding from the Department of Youth and Culture.
