Organisers of Compliance Workshop

Some forty (40) service providers, regulators, representatives from local banks and other members of the financial services market participated in the Compliance Workshop hosted by the UWI Open Campus Anguilla on Tuesday 16th April, 2019. During the timely session on Tax Transparency Standards and Economic Substance, Compliance Manager in the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Marisa Harding Hodge and newly appointed Deputy Director of the Anguilla Financial Services Commission, Ms. Simone Martin, delivered well-researched and thought-provoking presentations. Ms. Harding Hodge reported on the protocols necessary for Exchange of Information on Request (EOIR) and further provided an introduction to the application of the Country by Country (CBC) Reporting Standards for Anguilla. Ms. Martin similarly illustrated the practicality of economic substance for organisations on Anguilla, while highlighting how Anguillian entities can effectively embrace compliance measures to capitalise on future growth opportunities.

During the second half of the Workshop, Ms. Harding-Hodge and Ms. Martin joined the Director of Anguilla Financial Services Commission, Ms. Tina Bryan, Deputy Registrar of Anguilla Commercial Registry, Mr. Lonnie Hobson and Education and Training Officer of the Anguilla Compliance Association, Mrs. Fiona Curtis for a panel discussion on issues affecting the industry. The Panelists also fielded questions from the audience.

The Workshop was the second in the series of compliance-related initiatives presented the UWI Open Campus Anguilla in collaboration with the Anguilla Financial Services Commission (AFSC), The Anguilla Commercial Registry (ACORN), The Anguilla Compliance Association (ACA) and the Ministry of Finance. The session was deemed timely in light of the recent proposal of International Tax Compliance (CBC Reporting) regulations.

The UWI Open Campus Anguilla and the Organising Committee extend appreciation to the presenters, participants and all those who ensured the success of the Workshop and look forward to the continued participation in these professional development sessions for the Financial Services Industry.
