DUMP SITE AT WEST END By Observer

Anguilla has finally got experienced and competent management for the landfill site at Corito. Now what is the Government going to do about the dump site in the West End? (see photos taken just last week.) Visible in the pictures are asphalt, plastics, metal, pails/drums, and who knows what buried below the hundreds of tons of rubble. A nearby householder asked one government employee about the dumper doing the dumping and was told – whatever!! Hopefully, nobody in the affected area has a well to be contaminated.

Maybe this is where the overflowing trash bins from the rest of the island will be emptied. Unfortunately, the Government does not have the funds to clean up this site. With the dumper seeming to have a position of privilege, that person or company will not be asked to cover the thousands of dollars required to transport the garbage to the landfill which has the appropriate equipment and space to deal with the mess. Oh well, as usual we correct on one hand and err on the other.
