The Government of Anguilla is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jose Vanterpool as the First Nominated Member of the Anguilla House of Assembly. Mr. Vanterpool will fill the seat left vacant as a result of the election of the former First Nominated Member, Hon. Terry Harrigan, to the position of Speaker of the House of Assembly, a vacancy occasioned by the untimely passing of the late Hon. Leroy C. Rogers, during his tenure as Speaker of the House.
This appointment was made by His Excellency Timothy J. Foy, Governor of Anguilla, acting in accordance with the advice of the Chief Minister, Hon. Victor F. Banks, and by virtue of powers so vested in him by Section 35 (3) of the Anguilla Constitution. The appointment was made on January, 16, 2019 and Mr. Jose Vanterpool will be duly sworn in as First Nominated Member at the next scheduled sitting of the Anguilla House of Assembly.
Mr. Vanterpool is a twenty-three year old Anguillian who is at present the Information Technology Manager at the Malliouhana Resort Hotel in Anguilla. He holds a Master of Engineering in Computer Science Degree from the University of Bristol, in the United Kingdom, where he achieved First Class Honors. He also holds the distinction of being the Island Scholar, Anguilla, in 2014 as well as the Valedictorian of his graduating class at Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School in 2012. His hobbies include debating and music but he is a young man of wide ranging interests and talents.
The appointment of Mr. Vanterpool as First Nominated Member will be historic given the fact that he will be the youngest member ever appointed to the Anguilla House of Assembly since its inception in 1976. His appointment is a clear indication of the confidence the Government has in Mr. Vanterpool’s ability and its solid commitment to bringing young people formally into the political process in Anguilla.
