With the approach of Christmas, the residents of the four Senior Citizens Homes in Anguilla have been serenaded with special music for the season.

This was initiated by Mr. Carl Thomas who has in the past years arranged what he called “a cosmetic makeover for the elderly”. It has been a yearly undertaking by him with the support and involvement of other persons mainly from the beauty parlour salons and included hair styles and nail enhancement. This time he arranged a serenading event instead.

Over the past days he, and those working with him, have been to the Rosewood Home at Sandy Hill, Just Tender Loving Home at North Side, the Government-run Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home and the Tender Care Loving Home at George Hill. The latter home has had to be relocated there from The Valley following Hurricane Irma which severely damaged it on September 6, 2017.

The Guyana-born Mr. Thomas, who is of a friendly and community-minded disposition, is not a newcomer to working with the elderly. Back in his Linden home village he was involved with caring for the older folk.

After coming to Anguilla he was instrumental, along with four ladies, in organizing a geriatric course for persons administering care for the elderly. He has also served as a Probation Officer working with juveniles.

His “cosmetic make-over” work, now in its fifth year, gives him much satisfaction.
