The office grounds of Sunset Homes in Caul’s Bottom came alive with laughs, smiles and games as scores of families participated in a day of fun and community bonding on Saturday September 1st 2018. Sunset Homes was delighted to celebrate its sixteenth anniversary of sponsorship and organisation of this annual event for the families of the various surrounding villages. The event’s concept centered on a Fun Fair operated by Sunset Homes and partnering community and corporate organisations, where there were organized group sports complemented by booths with games, contests, hoola hooping, bingo, dominoes, juggling games, face painting and food and beverages. One of the highlights of the day was an interesting display and educational show by the energetic fire fighters from Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service. The children were thrilled as they learned about the role of the fire fighters, the features and capabilities of their fire truck and fire safety. The eagerly anticipated Tug-o-War culminated the proceedings where old and young joined in to jostle and pull, with all their might, for the grand prize of this year’s bragging rights. All refreshments, prizes, school supplies and games were provided complimentary to the children.

The event aims to encourage community spirit and to provide a stimulating, productive activity for the children where they can win educational prizes, ushering in the opening of the 2018-19 academic year. About 200 children and their families were present, and all children in attendance received school and sports supplies ranging from back packs, calculators, geometry sets, exercise books, stationery, footballs, games and more.
Appreciation goes out to all the persons who gave so generously of their time and resources including: Games Director Alfred “Allie” Douglas, Coach Miguel Walker, Emcee Remy Minette, Chief Coordinator Charlene Roach, Community partners Joan Johnson and Alma Gumbs, and Athnel Robertson, Wilton Ozaria, and the rest of Sunset Homes staff including Charlina, Verna, Lisa, Francis, Hari, Montre, Teisharn and Alyshia.

Special mention must be made of the very generous donation made by Joseph “Joe-B” Williams and his team who sent a fabulous array of special educational gifts and supplies for the children. Profound gratitude is extended to Joe B’s supporters overseas in the US and USVI: Tropical Shipping USA, Claude Clevinger, Jackie Rogers, Wilburt Williams, Paul Calise, Dr. Vanessa Vizcaino & Staff of Family Medical & Wellness Centre, Ms. D and Katherine Chacon of Edward Jones Financial Office.

Stellar support was received from supporting sponsors including FLOW, Haskins Ltd., Brother Lee and his Team at KOOL FM and The Anguillian newspaper, Lloyd Gumbs, Alegria Villa, Beaches Edge Villas, Freeman Family, Santosha Villa Estate, Long Bay Villas, Anguilla Fire & Rescue Services, Canita Ruan, Dr. Indira Singh, Anguilla Red Cross, Anguilla Football Association, Robert and Loren Pearson, Villa Kai, Maxine Herbert and Best Buy Supermarket, Lawrence “Big Time” Hodge, Merchant’s Market, Erlene White and Ciao Café, Essential Office Services, J.W Proctors, Mary’s Bakery, Department of Youth and Culture, Department of Sports, Customs Department, The Dominion Faith Centre, Ivor and Carmen Gumbs, Jasmin Garraway, Albert’s Marketplace, Rhonica Connor (Photographer), Royal Anguilla Police Force, Pink Mako, Happy Crew, Take Away Boutique Restaurant and its owner Sharmin Rogers, Syd & Pete’s Supermarket, Ivan Francis, Safe Cargo, Brandon Richardson, Asha, Ercilia, Jasmin, Tati, Celestine, Christina, Negra, Cassie, Keisha, Nandi, Keishaneice, Kishanna, Zoey, Zariah and Latoya Scarbro and family.
