UWI Open Campus Anguilla Annual Back to School Church Service

As part of the activities for the launch of the 2018/2019 academic year, students and staff of the UWI Open Campus Anguilla worshipped at the Church of God – Holiness on Sunday, 2nd September. Deemed the ‘Neighbourhood Church’ because of its close proximity to the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Site, the Church has hosted a number of UWI special Services/Events over the years.
During the lively service, the scripture reading was delivered by UWI Guild of Students/Academic Representative, Ms Elissa Williams. The students were given a word of encouragement by Deputy Chair, Mrs Charlene Roach, before a rendition of Travis Green’s “Made a Way” led by Mrs Roach and accompanied by Ms Kemoloy Murphy, Ms Elissa Williams and Ms Tiffany Moore. In her remarks, Manager for the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories Sites, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, expressed appreciation to Pastor and Mrs. Philip Gumbs and the congregation for their continued support of the University. “The Church of God – Holiness is our neighbourhood church and you are good neighbours,” she said. As a symbol of appreciation, Dr. Fleming-Banks and Chair of the Anguilla Chapter of the UWI Open Campus Guild of Students, Miss Kemoloy Murphy, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the Church on behalf of the students and Staff of the University. Mrs. Cynthia Gumbs received the award on behalf of the Church, and thanked the UWI Open Campus for contributing to the positive development of the Anguillian community through various educational programmes and activities.
The sermon was delivered by Dr. Anthony Gordon who encouraged the students to strengthen their faith and aim for the momountaintopfor the launch of the 2018/2019 academic year began in August with a number of online and local orientation events and will continue with the official Online Welcome and Matriculation Ceremony on Wednesday, 5th September. The annual Guild of Students “Oneness” networking with members of other local student bodies is scheduled for later in the Semester.
