The Anguilla Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) is extremely proud of the mammoth accomplishments (over the past weekend) of these two young trailblazers who have also proudly represented Anguilla at recent Commonwealth Games.
Dee-Ann Kentish Rogers took part in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and Glasgow where she did the heptathlon. The enormity of this is a true indication of her hardwork, discipline, dedication and belief which undoubtedly continue with her progress through her studies and pageantry. Dee-Ann made history as the first black woman to have won the Miss Universe Great Britain competition – and having achieved such an accolade she will represent Anguilla and the United Kingdom at the Miss Universe competition to be held in the Philippines in December 2018.
Hasani Hennis was one of the cyclists who participated in the Commonwealth Games held in the Gold Coast, Australia, in April 2018. Hasani proved himself as being formidable in that he finished both the Time Trials and the Road Race as the top Caribbean cyclist. Based on his work ethic, drive and conviction it was evident that he had the potential to realise his dream and also that of Anguilla. His feat in winning the 19th Annual John T Memorial Race, and being the first Anguillan to achieve this accomplishment, is testament to the strength and endurance of the community. Cycling coach Brad, and his son, along with the Anguilla support team in the Gold Coast, Australia, also share the joy with Hasani, his family, coaches, team and the Anguilla Cycling Association.
The ACGA is committed to the development of the community and believes that sport is a great mechanism for fulfilling aspirations. Over the years, the ACGA has sought to prepare athletes for the youth and senior games. This has included assistance to various Associations through coaching development, attending regional meets, equipment and training camps etc.
The ACGA is grateful for the assistance obtained through the years from the Commonwealth Games Federation, and the various sponsors, locally and internationally, who have been instrumental in investing in youth development and helping to make times like these that more rewarding. To Dee-Ann and Hasani, along with your parents, coaches, support organisations and friends, we urge you to continue striving for greatness – continue to be trailblazers with the knowledge that the entire community is appreciative of your efforts and will support you.
