Following a series of primary school graduations, at this time of year, the most recent to date has been that of the Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School at West End. Its graduation ceremony was held at the Life Impact Center on the West End road, on Tuesday, July 3rd.
Following the singing of the National Song, a prayer was offered by Caryll-Ann Fleming, a parent of one of the students, and welcome remarks were given by Tr. Carol Richardson.
The feature address was presented by a former student of AARPS, Mr. Corey Buffonge. He reflected upon many of the graduates whom he recalled as tiny youngsters while he attended school there. He said, “I do even recognize a few of you graduates, who were once little kids, playing and saying your ABCs at my Mom’s Day Care Center. Now you are proudly poised in your graduation gowns, heads held high and ready to move on to the next stage in life.”
During his speech he passionately encouraged the graduating class to live up to their graduating motto, “Chosen and Destined for Greatness”. He remarked: “According to Wilmoth Rudolph, ‘we should never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit.’ The potential for greatness lives within each one of us.”
The presentation of multiple certificates and awards was done by Tr. Alphonsene Williams, Tr. Chishauna Hughes and parent, Mr. Carl Walker. The Valedictorian, K’Meeya Chung, and the Salutatorian, Shamya Hodge, were both recipients of gifts presented by Hon. Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Cardigan Connor, representative for the West End constituency.
In her speech, Valedictorian K’Meeya Chung noted: “ This is a major step in the journey of our academic lives. We all worked hard to get where we are at today, and we were all successful. Our time at Alwyn Allison was quite an experience. I welcomed the challenge from my classmates who unknowingly helped to work hard to achieve.”
Among other awards were: the Tr. Ashena Desouza Award, in recognition of outstanding music performance presented to Shamya Hodge; the ICT Award for skill in the subject area, presented to Ivanique Harvey; the Hon. Albert Hughes Award for leadership abilities, presented to CeCe Walker; the Delta Petroleum Extra Mile Award for extraordinary exemplary qualities presented to Chaz Hodge.
The Vote of thanks was given by Ms. Shaymya Hodge, the student who had, by far, won most of the Awards.
The students ended the night with dinner at the Italia Restaurant at the Cuisinart Resort.
