BILATERAL MEETING BETWEEN THE CHIEF MINISTER OF ANGUILLA AND LORD AHMAD

Following his recent visit to Anguilla, Lord Ahmad met Chief Minister Victor Banks and his delegation that included Mr Fritz Smith, Mr Jose Vanterpool, Mrs Blondel Cluff, Mr Charlie Wheeler and their colleagues, Mr Blunt and Mr Opfermann, both of the West India Committee. Lord Ahmad advised that he found his recent visit to Anguilla productive, informative and constructive, and was “ blown away by the children of the Anguilla’ whom he referred to as extremely bright and noted the dedication and hard work of the teaching profession on the island, and that of various other sectors he had visited. He also remarked upon the evident hard work that the citizens of Anguilla had undertaken in progressing with the recovery of the island since Hurricane Irma.
The cordial meeting was also attended by Governor Tim Foy, who would be accompanying the Chief Minister during the Joint ministerial Council later this week. Lord Ahmad informed the meeting that he had reported his favourable findings on Anguilla to the Foreign Secretary and the Prime Minister. The meeting demonstrated a clear accord to proceed in a constructive collaboration, and noted the issues relating to Anguilla’s French and Dutch borders, and the desire to develop a licenced fishing regime for Anguilla as a means of diversifying its economy.
Chief Minister Banks and team also had meeting with Jason Blick of the Chord Group, who is interested in setting up an Economic Exclusion Zone in Anguilla and with Brandon Bakshi who is also interested in operating a business in Anguilla.
Late evening Chief Minister Banks and Mrs Cluff attended a reception for the Leaders o the UKOT, hosted by Lord Ahmad.
