On May 23rd, 2018, 28 women gathered at the Anguilla Community College for the first Empower Her (for Women) seminar. This seminar was organised and facilitated by Mrs. Shellecia Brooks Johnson who is a blogger, writer, trainer and speaker with a passion for the empowerment of girls and women. The initiative was done in partnership with the Gender Affairs Unit of Anguilla which provided invaluable support for the event.

The two-hour seminar was for any woman with a dream. Its purpose was twofold. Bring women from all facets of Anguilla’s society together for networking purposes and also on an individual level to motivate women to refocus on their personal and professional dreams and goals. The ladies in attendance were involved in a series of interactive activities designed to encourage and motivate the ladies. The facilitator also shared encouraging words with those in attendance. The atmosphere was inspirational and supportive as the ladies shared, laughed, learned from and encouraged each other.
The women gave high praise for the seminar with many leaving empowered and with a renewed commitment to take purposeful steps towards achieving their dreams and goals. Feedback from the seminar also indicated a need for more empowerment type activities and events for women.

The conference room at the College was transformed by Jemmisa Graneau-Gumbs of Beverage Bars to provide a relaxed haven for attendees. Participants received light refreshments of local drinks and johnny cakes also made by Beverage Bars.
Shellecia Brooks-Johnson will be offering a number of different seminars and workshops over the summer months. These include:
