The Health Authority of Anguilla Board has appointed Mrs. Maeza Demis-Adams, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective 1 June 2018. As CEO she will be responsible for leading the collective efforts of all staff towards the achievement of the vision and mission of the Health Authority of Anguilla.
Mrs. Demis-Adams was previously employed with the Anguilla Public Service as the Health Planner where she was responsible for formulating national health policies, programmes and strategies, and coordinating national health projects.
She has spent the last 11 years working in various roles across the Health System. She was instrumental in coordinating the first chronic diseases risk factor survey in Anguilla, the Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV and Syphilis, the EU project “Strengthening HIV Response in the British and Dutch Overseas Territories” and several other health initiatives over the years. In 2015 she was awarded the “Anguilla Public Service Employee Recognition Award for Above and Beyond the Call of Duty.”
She is a graduate of Long Island University where she earned a Bachelors Degree Nursing in 2007 and the University of London where she earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health, with emphasis on Health Services Management in 2012. She is committed to lifelong learning and over the years she has pursued at least two professional development courses annually. She feels strongly that her God given purpose is to improve the health status of fellow Anguillians and holds the philosophy that the wealth of the nation is the health of the nation.
Using Mrs. Demis-Adams’ own words “It is like coming home. I began my health career at the Health Authority in 2007 as a Graduate Nurse, Dialysis Unit. I am honoured by the opportunity to serve my country in this new role. I am very aware of the many challenges facing the Health Authority especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma but am confident that collectively these challenges will become best practices. I never give up.” She also said “Over the next five years one priority will be improving quality of patient centered-care which is a passion of mine.”
