Some twenty (20) Anguillian graduates of the University of the West Indies (UWI) will be honoured at the 2018 UWI Alumni Awards slated for Saturday, 28th April from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Magic City in the Farrington. As a tribute to the Anguillian trailblazers, the UWI Open Campus Anguilla and the UWI Alumni Association – Anguilla Chapter will unveil a plaque with their names at the ceremony.
Those being honoured include the very first Anguillians to attend the UWI, the late Dame Dr. Bernice Lake and Dr. Macmilla Lorenzo Hodge, as well as Mr. Constantine and Mrs. Dulcie Richardson, Mr. George Hodge and Ms. Verna Richardson. Also among the honourees are local Methodist Ministers, Rev. Joseph Lloyd, Rev. Dr. H. Clifton Niles, Rev. E. Dunstan Richardson, Rev. Neville Buchanan and Rev. Dr. Wycherley Gumbs. Other notable Anguillians on the list are Mr. Sinclair Buchanan, Miss Irma Richardson, Mr. Colville Petty, Mr. Marcel Fahie, Mrs. Yolande Hodge-Richardson, Mrs. Stella Horsford and the late Clive Carty and Franklin Connor.
The 2018 Awards form part of the activities marking the 70th Anniversary of the University and a large number of UWI graduates, family and friends are expected to attend the celebration.
The now annual UWI Alumni Awards is an initiative of the local arm of the University in collaboration with the local branch of the Alumni Association. It seeks to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of UWI Alumni from all four campuses of the University who are resident on Anguilla. The first Awards ceremony was held in 2016 in honour of alumnus and former Resident Tutor, the late Mr. Julian R. Harrigan. The Julian R. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship Fund was also launched at that ceremony.
The 2018 Ceremony on 28th April is open to the public and the organisers are inviting attendees as well as alumni and friends to make a contribution to the scholarship dedicated to Mr. Harrigan’s memory.
