Terry Brennan, a very well known and popular figure in the Anguillian community, died in hospital after a fall in his home in England, a few weeks ago.

He was a career constable, serving mainly in uniform at stations in and around London; was a very private man but loved to reminisce about his
career in the Metropolitan Police. He was very proud to have spent his last eight years of service as an intelligence officer with the Fraud Squad at New Scotland Yard.

He had successfully applied to join the Metropolitan Police contingent, sent to Anguilla following the revolution. Like so many who land on the shores of Anguilla, he fell in love with the island and its people. He spent many months each year of his retirement in Anguilla, residing mainly in the home of his great friend, Ron Myers, but also did house and pet-sitting wherever and whenever requested.

He was a confirmed bachelor but had many friends; was a Freemason and a member of the Unity Lodge of Anguilla; was a lover and follower of
cricket and many other sports and an avid bridge player. He was perhaps
best remembered in his role of Santa Clause, appearing in the full red traditional outfit of the fabled character with his flowing white beard at the Annual Fairs on the Grounds of Government House and at other events and private parties. He was frequently photographed, ringing his bell announcing his arrival, with a following of eager children.

In recent years he was inhibited from returning to Anguilla by poor health but while confined to his home, he remained mentally active up to the time of his passing. Early indications are that he included a number of charities in his will.

He will be fondly remembered by many people in Anguilla from all walks of life.
