The Valley School emerged champion of the Inter-Primary Schools’ Sports Day Competition for the 8th consecutive year at the Ronald Webster Park on Tuesday, March 27. The school’s winning score in the various activities amounted to 521 points. Its closest rivals were the Adrian T. Hazell School with 472 points; and the Orealia Kelly School with 411 points.
The scores of the other competing schools were:

Morris Vanterpool School 309 points; Vivien Vanterpool School 221 points; Alwyn Allison Richardson School 193 points; the privately-run Omolulu International School 156 points; and the Home Schoolers (participating in the competition for the first time) 37 points.

The competition was one of the largest sporting events seen at the Ronald Webster Park in recent times with hundreds of persons in attendance and braving, along with the children, the heat of the day and the dust.

The competition was declared open by Minister of Education, Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge, who said in part: “We are here once again to engage in the friendly competition, one of the most intensive days in the school year. The fact that schools take time during this term for this event, tells us that being involved in sporting activity is an important part of school life.

“This Sports Day is an opportunity for children to showcase their sporting ability and to be recognised and rewarded for their outstanding talent.”

The Minister advised the children that teamwork, determination, endurance and good sportsmanship, as well as their excellent performances and good behaviour, would help them to represent their school well.
