SENThe Department of Education seeks to meet the needs of all students by creating and tailoring programmes that equip and empower them to lead successful lives. The Special Education Division therefore subscribes to this mandate as it aims to provide essential care and support for students with special educational needs.
This year in observance of Special Education Week, under the theme “Our disabilities do not limit our abilities”, the staff and pupils of Dove 2 of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, would like to extend words of appreciation to those in the community who have recognized the truth in our theme and have supported us since our inception.

When we think of such individuals, the word Love comes to mind. What is Love? Love is caring for others the way you would want them to care for you.

The Bible in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 states: “Love is patient, Love is kind, Love is not boastful, arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, is not resentful. Love does not rejoice in wrong doing but rejoices in the truth. Love never ends.”

Love is the virtue that is the driving force behind the work we do at Dove 2 and the various forms assistance we receive from members of the public. We therefore take this opportunity to encourage everyone to practice the principles of love from their hearts, and not from their lips. Love is a powerful force which has the ability to positively alter one’s mindset and overall well-being. When love is shared, there will be more tolerance, more acceptance, more peace and less violence in the world.
So, as we celebrate Special Education week, let us endeavor to treat all persons with love and respect. Though I might look different than you do and act different, possessing my own special, idiosyncrasies, know that the ability to feel love transcends these differences. Always bear in mind the words of Maya Angelou who stated that: “people will not remember what you did,or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”

Thank you once again to all those persons who have showed us love over the years and, as we celebrate another year, we ask for your continued love and support.

We love you. Thank you.
