Following his retirement from active duty, he returned to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, where he joined his cousin, Elkin Lloyd, in the construction field. He later worked in the Department of Health as a Health Enforcement Officer. He afterwards dedicated much of his time to the Police Academy.
The late Walter Richardson, otherwise known as “Sonny”, “Bango”, “Master Chief” and “Grandmaster”, was born in Anguilla on November 26, 1945, to May Richardson, her only offspring. He obtained his early education at The Valley Boys’ School and later at The Valley Secondary School. After leaving school he migrated to St. Thomas where he spent some time in the construction industry before enlisting in the United States Army in 1970.
He was described as having been an honest, friendly, helpful and generous person and was also known for the joy and laughter he brought to his family and friends.
