From 2014, the Rotary Club and Scotiabank have partnered annually to send three students from Anguilla to participate in the annual October Spelling Bee competition held in St. Maarten. The Organizers of the competition are the Rotary Club of St. Maarten Mid Isle along with the Rotaract Club of St. Maarten Sunrise. The schools which are successful in having their students participate in the competition are given a wishlist to complete and a gift item is presented to those schools.

In the 2016 competition, the students who represented Anguilla were from the Morris Vanterpool and the Adrian T. Hazell Primary Schools. The Principals and the students also attended the Rotary meeting for the prize presentation.
Principal Michael Skellekie and student Ja’al Benta from the Morris Vanterpool Primary School were the proud recipients of a digital camera, and a laptop computer was presented to Principal Tracelyn Hamilton and student Steven Connor of the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School.

President of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, Genefa Fedee, said “the Spelling Bee competition is a wonderful opportunity for both the students and the schools represented; so we encourage the schools to continue to work with your students as we are now preparing to commence registration for the October 2017 competition.”

Managing Director of Scotiabank Anguilla, Mr. Ramsingh, commented: “We are pleased to be part of this partnership with the Rotary Club as we recognize that an investment in the education of the youth is surely an investment into a bright future.”
