omo1The students of Omololu International School (OIS) were dressed in their finest cultural wear on Friday, April 28, for the annual Culture Day celebration. Parents and invited guests were treated to 16 unique presentations from around the globe, each highlighting a different nationality and culture. Students are free to select whatever world culture they would like to showcase – whether they have a personal connection to it or not. Presentations ranged from song and dance to a fashion show, to an informational presentation, sharing facts and figures about their selected culture. The show’s Mistresses of Ceremonies were 4th Graders Anna Lynch and Alyssa Bahadursingh whose energy and stage presence moved the show along seamlessly.

The day started with a Parade of Nations where students proudly displayed their flags and national dress, before moving into the cultural presentations which started and ended with presentations about Anguilla and the significance of the 50th anniversary of the Revolution.

The morning concluded with a “Feast of Nations”, a food festival that all parents contribute to and everyone gets to enjoy a wide variety of dishes from all over the world. “This was my first Culture Day since joining the school,” said teacher Collette Jones-Chin. “I thought it was just fabulous. It’s so amazing to let all the students show off their own unique personal histories in such a creative way.” This was the 5th Annual Culture Day festival. All students, Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 6 participate.
