Flow continues to demonstrate good corporate citizenship by contributing EC$10,000 to Festival Del Mar, one of the island’s most popular and unique festivals that takes place over the coming Easter weekend, April 15 -16, in the fishing village of Island Harbour.
Country Manager, Mr Desron Bynoe, commended the organizers of the Festival while emphasizing the importance of partnering with various stakeholders in the community: “Their mission was clear and similar to ours – connecting communities and transforming lives and, indeed, that’s what they have been doing. It is one of the few festivals that has broken the immigration barrier. We all know around this time immigration is relaxed in relation to our neighboring islands – French and Dutch St Martin. Festival Del Mar really brings together all these neighboring islands that have a fishing or sea tradition – a combination of boating activities and culinary skills bringing together persons to celebrate what the island has to showcase.”
He continued: “Festival Del Mar is part of the Anguilla calendar and this is something, as a business, we do look forward to as we see endless opportunities for the Festival to continue to grow especially in keeping the tradition alive with boat racing.”
Chairman of the Festival Del Mar Committee, Damien Harrigan, expressed gratitude to Flow for being with the Festival over the years: “We have always been able to count on Flow in times of need. We see the financial sponsorship, but it goes beyond that as Flow has given us the opportunity to do fundraisers with them and has always donated tents and other paraphernalia.”
Harrigan also mentioned that Festival del Mar has grown tremendously over the past ten years and has attracted visitors from all over the world, especially from the UK and the US.
He remarked that participation from neighboring St Martin has been good as fishermen from there will be competing with our local fishers in the Deep Sea Fishing Tournament slated for Saturday. Other activities on that day include model boat racing, Festival Del Mar “Class B” boat race, sun fish exhibition and, later in the evening, the opening ceremony followed by entertainment by the Mussington Brothers (of Anguilla) and the Control Band from St Martin.
On Sunday is the much anticipated Elliot Webster Memorial “A Class” boat race sponsored by the Island Harbour Care Centre. Other activities during the day include the sea food culinary competition, swimming relay race and the crab race.
The highlight for the evening will be a concert dubbed “Anguilla Gone Country” – paying tribute to Island Harbour which is known for its love for country music. Headlining the event is Pat Ross along with other local artistes participating in the show.
