ROTARY TRIATHLON RACE RELAY A HUGE SUCCESS

The Rotary Club of Anguilla held its first annual Triathlon Race Relay on Sunday 5 March 2017 at Sandy Ground. The event was held in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Department of Sports. The race consisted of three segments: swimming, cycling and running. The participants were students from all the public Primary Schools and the Central Christian School.
Sandy Ground came alive with music and much excitement as many students, parents and spectators came out in large numbers to support the young athletes. The event began with the girls race and the boys races followed. The top three teams in the races were:
Girls
Adrian T. Hazell Primary School. Time: 30:13:19
Valley Primary School. Time 32:24:32
Morris Vanterpool Primary School. Time 32:32:70
Boys
Valley Primary School. Time: 27:27:08
Morris Vanterpool Primary School. Time: 27:47:19
Orealia Kelly Primary School. Time 28:21:94

The overall placement for the schools combined results were as follows:
Valley Primary School 18 points
Adrian T. Hazell Primary School 14.2 points
Morris Vanterpool Primary School 14 points

The action packed event ended with a closing ceremony where each participant was awarded a medal of participation. The Hon. Cardigan Connor presented all the winners and schools with a trophy. Special prizes were also presented to the girls’ team from the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School and the boys’ team from The Valley Primary School.

The Vote of Thanks was presented by Rotarian Jeritza Samuel. She thanked many persons and institutions for making this first event a huge success. Some of the sponsors included: Four Seasons, Unbeweaveable divas, Coral Reef Bookstore, The Cycling Association, The Athletic Association and the Rotary Club of Brockton, MA.
